Contemporary China's Governance of Urban Unemployment
Abstract
After the founding of New China, there was always the pressure of urban employment in China's economic and social development. In the 1950s, China started its economic development plan to achieve full employment in the planning system. Under the state-led
planning system, however, not only did China's urban employment remain unresolved, it worsened. After the Cultural Revolution, when social and political revolution began to subside, the grave employment situation has increasingly become a prominent problem
in China's urban transformation process.
