Kritika Kultura An open-access semi-annual peer-reviewed international electronic journal of literary, language, and cultural studies of the Department of English of the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.

 

Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University, is launching its 28th issue on May 9, 2017, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at CTC 413, Ateneo de Manila University. The launch is open to the public.

KK 28 features essays by Conchitina Cruz on institutionalized creative writing in the Philippines; and Ekaterina Baklanova on Tagalog/Filipino loan words.

The Forum Kritika on “Hallyu In and For Asia” is guest edited by Ju-yong Ha. The section features an introduction to the essays by Ha. Essays in the forum are: Mary Jane Ainslie, Sarah Domingo Lipura and Joanne Lim’s take on the potential for a Hallyu “backlash” in Southeast Asia; Taeyun Yu on the Matrix of S&M in Korean Cinema; Joel David on the Korean War Film; and Maria Luisa Torres Reyes on the Coming of Age between Han and Sana.

The Forum Kritika on Textual Mobilities is guest edited by Maria Luisa Torres Reyes. The section features an introduction by Reyes. Essays in the forum are: Dae-geun Lim and Donghyun Kim’s re-reading of Yu Da-fu’s novels; Inseop Shin’s reading of the novel A Certain Woman by Takeo Arishima; Jooyoung Kim’s reading of Sa-ryang Kim’s Into the Light; and Ma. Socorro Perez’s discussion of the Ilocano-Hawaiian diasporic identity. 

The Monograph Section features Neslie Carol Tan’s reading of Candy Gourlay’s children fiction books.

The Short Takes section, a suite of curated reviews on a single work (book, performance, film, or exhibit) considers Patrick F. Campos’s The End of National Cinema. The section includes articles by Nadin Mai and Jasmine Agnes Cruz.

The Literary Section features authors whose works open new possibilities in literary form and approach. The contributors in the literary section are Paulo Tiausas, István Kémeny (translator: Gábor Mezei), Noelle Leslie dela Cruz, Karlo Antonio Galay David, John Revo Ocampo, Junley Lazaga (translator), and Shane Carreon. 

A simple reception follows the launch. 

Kritika Kultura is acknowledged by a host of Asian and Asian American Studies libraries and scholarly networks, and indexed in the MLA International Bibliography, Thomson Reuters (ISI), Scopus, EBSCO, and the Directory of Open Access Journals.
