Kritika Kultura An open-access semi-annual peer-reviewed international electronic journal of literary, language, and cultural studies of the Department of English of the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.

 

Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University, is launching its 24th issue on Mar. 12, 2015, 4:30 p.m., at the MVP Roof Deck, Ateneo de Manila University.

KK 24 features essays by Josen Masangkay Diaz on Nick Joaquin’s Cave and Shadows and historiography; Rene B. Javellana, SJ on the development of Hispanic food in the Philippines; Ma. Socorro Q. Perez on diaspora and translating Ilocano fiction; Patrick D. Flores on Fernando Zobel as artist, collector, and historian; Ranilo B. Hermida on the role of Catholic hierarchy in political discourse; Ryan Canlas on Wilfrido Nolledo’s But For the Lovers, history, and US imperialism; and Bliss Cua Lim on the queering of the aswang figure in literature, mainstream cinema, and amateur digital video.

The Kolum Kritika section features Resil Mojares on pedagogical approaches to world literature and Philippine regional literature; and E. San Juan, Jr. on Lualhati Bautista and social contradictions. The New Scholars’ Forum features Chryssa Celestino on animals in Philippine children’s books, while the Monograph Section features Clod Marlan Krister V. Yambao on installations of Filipino diasporic artists.

The Literary Section contains new and exploratory works of poetry and fiction from Alyza Taguilaso, Francezca Kwe, Paolo Tiausas, Jov Almero, Regine Cabato, Zeny May Dy Recidoro, Jan Kevin Rivera,  Angelo V. Suarez, and Carissa Pobre.

KK 24 marks the first issue under the editorship of Vincenz Serrano, who, starting this issue, takes over the role of Ma. Luisa Torres Reyes, who is now Editor Emeritus. This issue’s articles and literary works—as well as the lecture and reading series organized during school year 2014-2015—continue the work initiated and sustained by Prof. Reyes, while at the same time break new ground in scholarship and creative work.
