Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University, will host a lecture by Kar-Yen Leong. The lecture—titled "Keepers of the Grave: Ritual Guides, Ghosts, and Hidden Narratives in Indonesian History"—is on Aug. 6, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at SEC B 201A, Ateneo de Manila University. The event is open to the public.

Following the establishment of the Academy of Mobility Humanities in May 2018, the organizers invite proposals for whole panels or individual papers for 2019 Global Mobility Humanities Conference (GMHC). This conference is organized by the Academy of Mobility Humanities (Konkuk University), Kritika Kultura (Ateneo de Manila University), and UNITAS (University of Santo Tomas).

We are pleased to announce that A Natural History of Empire by Dominic Sy was selected as the winner of the Kritika Kultura / Ateneo de Manila University Press First Book Prize. Sy’s book was chosen from among a total of 22 entries.

Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University will host a research forum with Anna Alves and Zachary Frial (US Fulbright Scholars 2018-2019). The forum is in cooperation with the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF, also known as the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines). The forum is titled “Artistic Transmissions and Geographies in Transnational Filipino Cultural Production” and will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at CTC 307, Ateneo de Manila University. The event is open to the public.

The Global Mobility Humanities Conference (GMHC) of the Academy of Mobility Humanities (Konkuk University), Kritika Kultura (Ateneo de Manila University), and UNITAS (University of Santo Tomas) seeks papers on the conference theme: “Life, Thinking, and Culture in the Era of High Mobility.” Deadline: Mar. 29, 2019.

This lecture is made possible through a grant obtained by Kritika Kultura under the Internationalization Program of the Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University. The event is open to the public.

Buenconsejo. The lecture—titled "Songs for the Masses: Humor in Max Surban's Folk Urban Ballads"—is on Feb. 12, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Faura AVR, Ateneo de Manila University. The event is open to the public.

The lecture is titled “Journey of Invention of the Self from West to East: The Case of the Making of the Modern Self in Vietnam (from 17th to 20th Century) from an Intercultural Perspective.” The lecture is on Jan. 31, 2019, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., at SOM 111 (Ching Tan Room), Ateneo de Manila University. The event is open to the public.

Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary, and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila University, and the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE), will host an international conference on Cultural Practices and Policies in the Digital and Global Age. The conference will be held on Nov. 22 and 23, 2018, at Leong Hall, Ateneo de Manila University, and is open to the public (registration required). The conference is supported by the Academy of Korean Studies and the Korean Studies Promotion Service.

The lecture—titled “The Status of the Indigenous Peoples across Spanish and Portuguese America (16th to 18th Centuries)” is on Oct. 30, 2018, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., at Faura AVR, Ateneo de Manila University. The event is open to the public.

Kritika Kultura and the World Association for Hallyu Studies announce a call for papers for a special issue on “Pop Culture in North Korea.” Selected papers will be published in the Aug. 2019 issue of Kritika Kultura (ISSN: 1656-152X), an international peer-reviewed journal indexed in, among others, the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (Clarivate), EBSCO, and Scopus.

Kritika Kultura is now accepting contributions to its literary section, for possible inclusion in its forthcoming installments, beginning with the 32nd issue, which will be published in Feb. 2019.
